As people across the United States remember those who served and sacrificed on this Memorial Day, Georgia's state officials are remembering three service members from Georgia who died within the last year.

During a pre-Memorial Day event Wednesday, Gov.Brian Kemp thanked veterans and their families and read the names of the three who died: Specialist Travis Jordan Pameni and Sergeant Owen Elliott, who died while serving in Iraq and Staff Sergeant Ryan O'Hara, who was killed during a collision between a military helicopter and commercial airliner in Washington, D.C.

We know nothing we say or do can ever repay the debt of gratitude that we owe these three Georgians," Kemp said. "But on this solemn day, we can recommit ourselves to carrying their memory forward, as we do for all those who sacrificed and served."

The family members of the service members Kemp honored attended the ceremony.
