Teams are wrapping up their non-region schedules and getting ready for the second half of the season. We’re seeing some separation in parts of the state and some gathering of the forces in others…

Teams we thought would be where they are… are where they are… and some surprises are still out there when you look- which is always cool to see…

Here’s your weekly rewind…

Let’s start with one of those surprises- for that, we go to Ashburn and check in on the Turner County Rebels. Charlton County head coach Rich McWhorter knew going in to this season that the Rebels would be one of the teams to look at in region 2-A (listen to Coach McWhorter's interview in the Podcast link above). And we all got to see first-hand he was right…

Jake is in “The Locker Room” with a look at the 44-0 win.

The Rebels are 5-0 for the first time since 2000…

Another surprise could be found in Double-A with Jefferson County…

They took on Screven and handed them their first loss of the season- by a handful, 44-20…

Matt and Nathan are inside for your “Football Friday Night.”

On the coast, Ware County continues to roll in 5A. Last week, Bradwell Institute was on the calendar and Dedrick Mills had a big game in a quick fashion…

Slats and Kim Sears have the look at the Gators and Tigers at the 1:30 mark. Glynn Academy’s win over Richmond Hill is also on the docket.

And we talk about surprises… so that, Dear Reader, is the question of the week:

What has been the biggest surprise to you this season…? Could be a team… could be a player… Let me know in a number of ways: Either at the bottom of the page in the “Comments” section, on our Facebook page (GPB Sports), on Twitter (@GPBSports or through our individual pages- mine is @OSGNelson as an example), and by downloading the GPB Sports app.

We always look forward to hearing what you have to say when it comes to your teams and players and I always enjoy the conversation…

Another surprise this year is Union County in Double-A. After their win over Social Circle, they’re now 5-0 and in some polls for the first time in 30 years… sorry… 30 YEARS!!! Well done by the Panthers . next up for them is a game against Oglethorpe County this Friday night!

This week on “Football Fridays in Georgia,” it’s a big Gwinnett County rivalry with North Gwinnett travelling to Norcross. North got shut out for the first time since 2009 in their loss to Mill Creek and we get to look at the largest, newest scoreboard in the state at Norcross High. The “All-Access Pass” starts at 7 with kickoff a little after 7:30. Norcross beat Duluth last week and come into the game at 5-0 themselves.

So join Jackie, Mark, Matt, Larry, Rayven, and me- not to mention the rest of the “GPB Army” that puts on a great show every week for you…

Thanks for being a part of Football Fridays with us…

Play it safe, everyone… I will see you at the stadium!
