Georgia education chief Richard Woods calls for a $3,000 raise for teachers

Georgia state School Superintendent Richard Woods is calling on Gov. Brian Kemp and lawmakers to give teachers a $3,000 raise next year. Woods also wants lawmakers to rewrite the state's funding formula to provide more money for pupil transportation.

Waiving state certification can make it easier for school districts to fill vacancies amid the shrinking pool of experienced educators and fewer in college studying to become educators. Waiver teachers make up about a quarter of Bibb Schools’ teachers.
