GPB morning headlines for February 29, 2024

Today is Crossover Day, a key deadline in the Georgia General Assembly when legislation has to pass either the House or Senate to be considered by the other chamber before the end of this session.

Georgia Democrats are hoping to pass legislation protecting in vitro fertilization or IVF after an Alabama supreme court decision that threatens the legality of the infertility treatment.

Today is February 29th, a day that comes around only once every four-years.

The Georgia Ports Authority reported Tuesday, July 30, 2019, that its ports at Savannah and Brunswick handled a record 37.5 million tons (34 million metric tons) of cargo in the 2019 fiscal year that ended June 30. That's a 4.2% increase over the previous year.

Commissioners in Forsyth County are split on whether to use federal COVID relief funds for mental health care now that the planned building costs exceed the budget by $12 million. The plan is now up in the air, to the frustration of many residents.

The district attorney for Athens-Clarke County is bringing in a special prosecutor to handle the case of slain student Laken Riley.

Georgia lawmakers gave final approval yesterday to the nearly $38 billion midyear budget.
