Man convicted of killing Laken Riley sentenced to life in prison without parole

A Venezuelan man has been convicted of murder in the killing of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley. Jose Ibarra was charged with murder and other crimes in Riley's February death, and the guilty verdict was reached Wednesday by Athens-Clarke County Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard.

Court documents reveal new details of killing of nursing student at University of Georgia

The suspect in the killing of a nursing student on the University of Georgia campus used an object as a weapon in the crime and is accused of "disfiguring her skull." That's according to newly filed arrest affidavits. Jose Ibarra faces multiple murder and assault charges in the death of 22-year-old Laken Riley.

The killing of a nursing student in Georgia who was out running has shaken the university town of Athens. Twenty-two-year-old Laken Hope Riley, who was studying at Augusta University, went out for a run Thursday morning but did not return.
