The Carter Center in Atlanta has kicked off its first Georgia Mental Health Forum since the death of former first lady and mental health advocate Rosalynn Carter in November.

Student newsrooms at Savannah State University and Morehouse College in Atlanta are among the recipients of a new grant program launched by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones.

The ACT or SAT will be required at four more Georgia public universities starting in the fall of 2026.

PHOTOS: Northern Lights in Georgia? See these colorful images of night skies from around the state

A solar storm caused the aurora borealis phenomenon to be visible in the sky across much of the United States this weekend. From Appling to Bainbridge and Skidaway Island to Toccoa, people across the state shared their images with swirls of deep violets, greens and pinks that glowed around midnight Friday and again Saturday night. Possible sightings could continue this week.

Century-old sacrifices now remembered in downtown Macon memorial

The names of a chain gang guard with a horse-drawn wagon, a fire inspector and a Prohibition-era police detective now are etched in three black granite monuments in Macon’s Public Safety Memorial Park. Each year around May 15 and Sept. 11, the community gathers at the memorial on Mulberry Street to remember local lives lost in service.
