US Navy will name a future submarine for Atlanta, the 5th vessel named for Georgia's capital

Atlanta is far from the ocean, but it will have a naval vessel named for it again. U.S. Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro announced Wednesday that the Navy will build a nuclear attack submarine that will be known as the USS Atlanta.

Georgia governor proposes $1B tax rebate as state Legislature urged to tap hefty surplus

Gov. Brian Kemp announced plans for a new tax rebate of $250 for single tax filers, $375 to head-of-household filers or $500 to married couples filing jointly, adding up to $1 billion, according to the governor’s office.

A federal judge has ordered Rudy Giuliani to turn over his New York City apartment and various other assets to two Georgia election workers who won a $148 million defamation judgment against him. Judge Lewis Liman in Manhattan issued the ruling Tuesday.

The 14-year-old indicted on murder charges in the mass shooting at Apalachee High School has pleaded not guilty.

This week the Federal Emergency Management Agency is opening three more centers in South and East Georgia to manage disaster recovery for Georgians affected by storms during an unusually active hurricane season.

Georgia Supreme Court rejects Republican attempt to quickly reinstate invalidated election rules

The Georgia Supreme Court has rejected an attempt by national and state Republicans to immediately reinstate recently passed election rules that a judge had ruled were invalid. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Thomas Cox last week ruled that the State Election Board didn't have the authority to adopt the new rules.
