A media personality who co-founded a conservative political action committee has been appointed to a seat on the Georgia State Election Board. Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns, a Republican, on Friday announced the appointment of Janelle King to the board, effective immediately.

Amid GOP focus on elections, Georgia Republicans remove officer found to have voted illegally

Georgia's Republican Party has removed one of its officers after a judge found he voted illegally nine times after moving to the state. Party Chairman Josh McKoon says the state Republican Committee voted 146-24 on Friday to remove Brian K. Pritchard.

Georgia governor signs budget boosting spending, looking to surplus billions to cut taxes in future

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp is both increasing spending and cutting taxes as state tax revenues decline, saying he is looking to the state's billions in surplus to allow him to remain on that course. The Republican governor on Tuesday signed a $36.1 billion budget for the year beginning July 1 that will boost pay for public school teachers and state employees, while spending more on education, health care and mental health.

Columbus District Attorney Stacey Jackson dies just two years after taking office

Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Stacey Jackson has died, authorities said. Jackson was 50 years old and had been battling illness, causing him to take extended medical leave from his office. Appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp, he was sworn in as district attorney in May 2022.

Georgia governor signs bill into law restricting land sales to some Chinese citizens

Georgia has a new law that limits the ability of some Chinese citizens to buy land in the state. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed SB420 into law on Tuesday. The measure bans any "agent" of China from buying farmland in Georgia or any commercial land near military installations.

50 years after Hank Aaron's 715th homer, Hall of Fame announces statue, Postal Service unveils stamp

Baseball's Hall of Fame will unveil a bronze statue of Hank Aaron on May 23, and the U.S. Postal Service will release a commemorative stamp picturing Aaron in his Atlanta Braves uniform. Both announcements came on the 50th anniversary of Aaron's 715th home run, which topped the record 714 hit by Babe Ruth.
