Former Alabama state representative April Weaver has been appointed as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Regional Director for Region IV.

Region IV includes Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi, Kentucky, South Carolina and North Carolina.

Weaver served as a representative in the Alabama House of Representatives for 10 years, including five years as the chair of the House Health Committee. She is also a registered nurse with 23 years of experience in hospitals.

The HHS declined a request with Weaver, citing "schedule changes."

“I’m honored to have this opportunity to serve our country and to continue my public service in my new position at HHS,” Weaver said in a press release. “I am eager to get to work supporting the initiatives of President Trump and Secretary Azar as well as the mission of the Department of Health and Human Services.”
