While headlines fill with international tensions, a group of artists from around the world aim to garner some cultural diplomacy through the power of music.

OneBeat brings 25 emerging musicians together to collaborate on writing, producing and performing original music, in the hopes of using the universal language of music to encourage cultural exchange.

On Second Thought host Virginia Prescott talks with members of OneBeat 2019.

A few members of OneBeat stopped by the studio to talk with On Second Thought. Farid Ghannam is a singer from Morocco. Ming Qi is a synthesist from China. Rodney Barretto is a percussionist from Cuba. Free Feral is a string player and composer who grew up in New Orleans.

“I don’t think it’s possible to do something like this and not be changed permanently by the experience,” Feral shared. “We’ve all learned a lot from each other.”

OneBeat is performing in Atlanta tonight, Friday, Oct. 4, at the High Museum of Art. They'll also be in East Point at ArtsXchange on Saturday, Oct. 5.
