Political Rewind: Another Democrat Enters 2020 Senate Race
On this edition of Political Rewind, Clarkston Mayor Ted Terry becomes the latest to announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate in 2020.
He will face fellow Democrat Teresa Tomlinson in the primary with hopes to unseat Sen. David Perdue in the general election. "I want to be a Senator for all of Georgia and I want to hear from people who might disagree with me," Terry said.
When asked by panelists why he has moved away from previous plans to run for governor, Terry said that when he looks at the current field of announced and suspected Democratic senate candidates he is “left wanting for more bold vision more progressive bona fides.”
Money is flowing for Gov. Brian Kemp’s 2022 re-election bid, revealing what is expected to be a fight. Funding for his once and possible future opponent, Stacey Abrams and her Fair Fight Action PAC is also strong.
Meanwhile, Rep. Ed Setzler, the author of the controversial Heartbeat law, explains why his fundraising totals are under $500.
How are calls for a boycott of Home Depot aligning local Democratic leaders and President Donald Trump on the issue?
When asked about billionaire Home Depot Founder Bernie Marcus' philanthropy, panelist Patricia Murphy explained that his giving goes beyond political contributions. “I think if you look into Bernie Marcus’ record of philanthropy in the state, even Democrats in the state have been very grateful for the work that he has done that’s apolitical, including a whole lot of money into health care that’s really made a difference at Grady hospital," she said.
“I think in terms of Home Depot, there are boycotts every day over Chick-Fil-A and their founders’ policies, and that’s actually not an ambiguous situation,” adding, “a boycott has more to do with the people who are boycotting rather than the people being boycotted”.
