Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) will receive the first John McCain Service to Country Award on Tuesday evening in Washington, D.C.

The late senator's widow, Cindy McCain, will present the award to Isakson at the annual Friends of National Service awards ceremony, where he is being recognized for a “life-long devotion to country through citizen and public service and for exceptional leadership in advancing national service to solve community problems.”

This will be the inaugural presentation of the award from Voices for National Service after Sen. John McCain’s passing in August. The ceremony honors a number of journalists, advocates and politicians from both parties for their service.

“John McCain’s life and work left an indelible mark on history, and I’m incredibly honored to have earned this prestigious award named in his honor from an organization that is so highly respected by so many,” Isakson said in a press release. “To have Mrs. Cindy McCain present this special award is particularly meaningful for me. It is my privilege to serve, and I can hope that I’ve made a positive difference in the lives of others.”

Isakson served in both chambers of the Georgia General Assembly, as well as the U.S. House before being elected to his current role of U.S. Senator. He serves as the chairman of both the Senate Committee on Ethics and the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
