Middle Georgia is popping this weekend with "Mary Poppins" and the one night music festival that is Bragg Jam!

Huffington Post film critic Jackie K. Cooper and local harpist Betsy Fitzgerald are here with their lists of things to do this weekend.

Here are Betsy’s items for this week:

The musical "Footloose," based on the great '80s film of the same name, is coming to life on stage at The Rose Theatre in Forsyth.  The show features the story of Ren, a Chicago boy who moves to a small town that has a ban on dancing. When the Reverend's rebellious daughter sets her heart on Ren, her boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation and many of the locals are eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The show was nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Book of musical, Best Score, and Best Choreography.

Bragg Jam 2016 Arts & Kids Fest

Yes, Bragg Jam is most famous for its concert crawl but did you know that they also host a free event perfect for families?  Festivities take place in Cherry Street Plaza, nestled between the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and Tubman Museum.  Activities include face painting, sand art crafts, and games for kids. There will also be musical performances from the young musicians and songwriters of the Otis Redding Camp and Matt Whitaker. Trampolines, bouncy houses, and variety acts, such as juggling and stilt walking, make this signature event a Bragg Jam favorite. I’m also excited that food trucks will be part of this year’s event.

Movie In the Park

August 2, 2016

Enjoying a movie with loved ones has always been a way to bond and form connections over shared interests. In recent years, that concept has expanded as local communities in Macon who continue to host outdoor movie series that allow residents to come together through cinema and fun.

Beall's Hill Neighborhood invites you to an evening movie under the stars.  The movie (a collection of Pixar shorts) will start around 8:30 p.m. (sunset) and will be held at Tattnall Square Park Coleman Avenue, Macon, Georgia.
