Patience is an autistic woman who helps the York police with their investigations.
Whether you want to beat the summer heat or escape a sudden seasonal downpour, curling up with a cozy mystery with GPB on Sunday nights has been synonymous with the warmer season for years. After I moved to Georgia, my Sundays each summer began with Agatha Christie mysteries and Inspector Lewis, and more recently, Endeavour and Grantchester. There’s something so engaging about visiting a big city or a small town in the UK right from your sofa and, just like the detectives or civilians on-screen, unraveling the mystery behind the murder and the culprit at hand.
This season, PBS and MASTERPIECE reunite viewers with one of the most popular team-ups in drama while introducing new characters, partnerships and chilling tales that, when uncovered, change the lives of the protagonists forever. Read on to find out what’s coming up on Sunday nights this summer and when you can tune-in or stream.
Patience is an autistic woman who helps the York police with their investigations.
An adaptation of the Franco-Belgian detective series Astrid (available to stream now on GPB Passport), Patience introduces viewers to the titular protagonist Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis), a young woman who works in the Criminal Records Office in the city of York and enjoys puzzles. Patience catches the attention of Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser), as she notices her pointing out traits about the environment and people around her that the rest of the team misses, leading Bea to extend an invitation to Patience to help out on various cases. But for both Patience and Bea, what starts as a professional partnership turns into a real friendship as both women learn from each other: Bea learning how to positively interact with the neuro-divergent Patience in a validating way while Patience begins to open up to the world and people who validate her unique way of thinking.
It’s the developing friendship between both women as they lean on one another, both in solving murder cases and navigating their lives, that lies at the heart of Patience. And for fans of another premiere this season, Walking with Dinosaurs, you won’t want to miss Episode 3 as Patience, Bea and the rest of the team delve into the world of fossil smuggling.
Patience premieres Sunday, June 15 at 8 p.m. and will air and stream for six episodes.
"Life shapes people in different ways." As everyone in Grantchester adjusts to changing times, they must also help one another confront their pasts. Get ready for the thrilling, moving, and mysterious new season, premiering June 15, 2025, 9/8c only on MASTERPIECE Mystery! on PBS.
Return to Cambridge for Season 10 of the MASTERPIECE favorite! It’s 1962 and Geordie, Alphy, Leonard and the rest of the Grantchester family navigate changes within their group and community at large. As Alphy (Rishi Nair) has begun to settle into life at the vicarage and assisting Geordie (Robson Green) on cases, it’s impossible for his friends to notice how he’s fully embraced the bachelor lifestyle. But while Alphy flirts and fumbles, he starts to understand that in order to embrace his future, he must come to terms with his past. For Geordie, he grapples between the best ways to help Alphy face the person he once was while supporting his family in their passions and identities, sometimes not knowing or caring when he’s stepped over the line. But for me, one of the biggest joys of Grantchester Season 10 was seeing Cathy (Kacey Ainsworth) and Mrs. C (Tessa Peake-Jones) shine in their storylines as they band together for a new business venture: they steal the scene whenever they’re featured but together, they are unstoppable. And I can’t forget about Leonard (Al Weaver) as he copes with a heartbreak and what family truly means to him.
Between the murders, the fashion, a wedding and an afternoon tea spread laid out by Mrs. C, there’s something for both returning fans and new viewers of Grantchester. You can’t help rooting for the characters, no matter how long you’ve spent on their journey.
Season 10 of Grantchester premieres Sunday, June 15 at 9 p.m. and will air and stream for eight episodes. Seasons 1 through 9 are available to stream now on GPB Passport.
CAPTIVATED is a nail-biting thriller that asks the question: how far would you go to repair your past? The four-part series follows the story of a young, single mother and her son as they deal with an increasingly controlling and obsessive boss.
The final Sunday drama premiere this season is a nail-biting, four-episode thriller with a familiar face that asks the question “How far would you go to repair your past?” Admittedly, this series was a difficult watch for me for one reason and one reason only: my favorite character in Downton Abbey is Tom Branson, played by Allen Leech, and I adored watching him grow from chauffeur to Sybil’s husband to Downton estate manager and beloved member of the Crawley family. His character arc throughout the show and films has been an absolute delight and, no matter if he’s drunk at dinner the night before Matthew and Mary’s wedding or stopping an assassination attempt of King George V, I’m always in his corner, hoping for his happiness and finding his place in the world.
In Captivated, however, you’ll see a different side of Allen Leech’s acting chops. It begins when single mother Rachel (Kara Tointon) struggles to support herself and her son, Liam (Charlie Hodson-Prior), with a cleaning position while facing abuse from Liam’s father and job insecurity. But, seemingly by chance, she and Liam meet the wealthy and enigmatic Elliot (Allen Leech), who offers Rachel a stable job, safety and an interest in mentoring her son, who takes to Elliot quickly. But from the get-go, something doesn’t feel right: Elliot is too charming, too involved and ultimately too irresistible to Rachel that when she begins to notice something is wrong, it’s too late to easily get out. As the viewer, it’s an exercise of wondering what will push both Rachel and Elliot over the edge as family secrets are revealed and the fairytale life Rachel and Liam have found themselves in begins to crumble. Allen Leech’s Elliot is truly a frightening force to be reckoned with and, like me, you may find yourself thinking “Tom Branson would NEVER.”
If you can’t wait to find out what happens next, you don’t have to wait until Sunday’s premiere: donors with access to GPB Passport can stream the entire series now.
Captivated premieres Sunday, June 15 at 10 p.m. and will air and stream for four episodes.
