Zykeivous Walker is a starting defensive end for Schley County High School in Ellaville. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound senior is currently the ninth-ranked strong-side defensive end in the country and No. 16 overall player in the state, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Walker was named Region 4-A Player of the Year his junior season after putting up 10.5 sacks, 14.5 tackles for losses and even getting a touchdown catch. He is getting looks from big-time SEC programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Tennessee, but he feels most at home with the University of Georgia.

Schley County Coach Darren Alford said they are preparing Walker for the next level by training him in the weight room and in the classroom. Alford said he’s really proud of how far Walker has come, and how he handles and prepares himself for games. Alford and the football staff give him opportunities but it’s Walker that takes it upon himself to go above and beyond.

We caught up with defensive standout to ask him a few questions.

What is so special about UGA? “I love everything about the Bulldogs. There’s nothing like Athens. Every time I go up to Athens we all have a good time with the coaches, I really enjoy the coaches. They always treat me like it’s home and any time I go to Georgia I always have a great time. Hey, that's my second home away from home. Athens is unbelievable.”

Which high school team is your biggest rival and describe what that game is like? “We play Marion County, that’s our rival, over there in Buena Vista. They beat us at the beginning of the season, 14-0, but we'll be back. We’re kind of down right now but we'll be back. We'll see them again.”

Who is your role model? “My mother is my role model because she’s taught me about hard work. She’s always on time everywhere she goes and she’s respectful, she’s nice and she always does everything in her power to do anything for us. I just look after my mom and I want to be the type of person that my mom is one day.”

What is your favorite and least favorite class? “Math is my favorite and I would say

my least favorite is science. I'm going to school for business. I want to be in management and hopefully one day I can be able to own my own business.”

What is your hometown like? “I live in Ellaville and we’ve only got one red light. We’re very small. We’ve only got two gas stations, we’ve got a Dollar General and a Piggly Wiggly. There’s a pizza place and a few other businesses but that’s about it.”
