First and foremost, I just want to give the warmest thoughts and wishes from everyone at GPB to everyone out there who has been hit by Hurricane Irma in one way or another- some have been hit harder than others and we all have been impacted in some manner, way, shape, or form…

My only request is to be there going forward for your neighbor, your friends, and family…

It’s going to be a long road back… more on that at the bottom of all this copy…

So, let’s get into what happened last weekend…

One of the bigger storylines came out of Valdosta where Tift went into Bazemore-Hyder and followed the steps of Wayne County and knocked off the defending champs in 6A.

Over on the coast, there were some games that were shifted to Thursday to avoid everything involving Irma. And we got a chance to see some good rivalry games (Effingham and South Effingham) highly-ranked teams like Benedictine, and surprises like Windsor Forest…

The round robin continued in middle Georgia with Veterans and Houston County at Freedom Field. As Big Marvin says, it’s the Battle of 96… so, LEHGO!

Over in the CSRA, one of the top stories early on continues to be Hephzibah as they keep adding bigger numbers to the left of the dash than to the right. Burke County keeps on rolling and Lincoln County played a big cross-river rival themselves…

Up in the north Georgia mountains, one of the guests of the “Football Fridays in Georgia” podcast last week continued the winning tradition of the show. Ridgeland head coach Wesley Tankersley’s group took on Chattooga. Dave Staley has the highlights, thanks to our friends at Newschannel 9 in Chattanooga- WTVC.

You see everyone…

You appear on the FFIG Podcast, you win…

So, WHO WANTS TO BE ON THE SHOW NEXT…??? Anyone…??? It’s wide open…

Anyway, I digress…

Over in the western frontier, Dave and Tall Paul visit Hamilton, LaGrange (to check in on Callaway), Brookstone, and the action in the Columbus area where some teams put up some big numbers last Friday night. Here’s their Georgia highlights, thanks our friends at WTVM-TV

But before we go, let’s head into the mountains for a look at a shoot-out that didn’t start that way. Rabun County and White County were going at it and it was tight early on before the Wildcats from Tiger (nope, not a misprint) put the pedal down late.

Here’s Blitz Sports look at the game that ended up with 75 points on the board in total- Rabun scoring 21 in the 4th for the 49-26 win in Cleveland

So, Dear Reader, what stuck out to you in this week of play…??? There were some records set in Jasper by Pickens in addition to the big offensive numbers put in across the board. Let me know what you think about the season as we go on the GPB Sports platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat (Did I forget one…?) and DON’T FORGET to download the GPB Sports app- available in Android and iPhone versions for your viewing pleasure.
