Larry Campbell is a legend in high school football. With 11 state championships, and 33 region titles it came as a surprise when he retired in late April. His retirement was unplanned, but after his many years of coaching he announced at a board meeting that he was going to retire. Campbell feels that it was the right timing since just three weeks after he retired his dad broke his hip and now his mom has become ill as well.

Even though Campbell is no longer coaching he still enjoys watching the games at Lincoln County high school. Not to mention the special treatment he receives, "I go to the games, and they have me a parking space. They were nice enough to give me a parking space. So I can get there right at game time. I have a little room in the press box where I can sit and watch the ball game."

Despite all his success he is very humble talking about his history coaching the Lincoln County Red Devils. "I never felt like it was just me. I just felt like I was in the right place at the right time... It is a community thing."

GPB's Jon Nelson went out to talk with Campbell at his home nestled amongst beautiful pastures in south Georgia. Watch the video below and get to know Larry Campbell during his in-depth conversation with Jon Nelson.
