The Meadowcreek Mustangs earned their first victory since 2008 in front of a very large and supportive crowd last Friday night.

Streaks can come out at you in one of two ways and it’s how you handle yourself after streaks come to an end that reveals how you are as a team, a person, and a town…

Meadowcreek High School is at the top of my list this week for a bunch of reasons…
The Mustangs had lost 95 of their last 96 games in the regular season. They held off Habersham Central 21-14 for their first win in 53 games. So, yes, they lost 42 in a row, won one, lost 53 in a row, and now have won another one. And they hadn’t won a region game since 2001-a stretch of 91. It was the first time the Mustangs had won a region game of any kind since a 13-3 win over Newton on November 11th, 1997- in Tom Lozano’s final year as head coach.
Wins from 2000 to 2008 all came in non-region games…

“It’s indescribable,” head coach George Pugh told the Gwinnett Daily Post’s David Friedlander. “These kids have fought so hard, and so much has always gone wrong. It’s been one thing or another. But you know what they’ve done? They’ve hung in there…I kept telling them, ‘Just hang in there and be patient, and good things will happen to you.’ Some good things happened to us (Friday) night.”
So, hats off to head coach George Pugh and the Mustangs…

Now, on with the rest of the week past…

Speaking of streaks… Aquinas hadn’t beaten Lincoln County in 32 years… until last Friday night…
Here’s how the Fighting Irish did it, thanks to Kevin and Andrew on “OFL Live” on WRDW-TV

Down south, you can always identify people, places and things by their importance if you can only say one name to pick them out of a crowd…
Like “Winnersville” and the “Winnersville Classic…”

Lowndes and Valdosta… and I was sent Twit pics by people who were four hours away from kickoff and had to park on the side of the road just to get in to the Lowndes High campus… WALB-TV’s Jake Wallace is one of our guests this week on the “Football Fridays in Georgia” podcast down at the bottom of the page or on the GPB iTunes search…
Find out more about the match-up that he doesn’t talk about with me by watching below… saying it was 3-0 doesn’t do it justice in front of 13,000 at the Concrete Palace…

In 6A, Norcross took care of business by shutting out Collins Hill last week on “Football Fridays in Georgia” on GPB, 28-0. One of the wilder finishes was in the same region as North Gwinnett and Mill Creek went after each other. North Gwinnett was down 47-28 with five minutes left, but scored 22 points in 1:20 for the HUGE comeback win, 50-47. Hayden Sphire was 15-of-29 passing for 216 yards- 8 of those went to Nate Brown (and 4 of those went for TD’s). C.J. Leggett rushed for 111 yards and also had a TD pass.

Archer continues their roll as well…
In 5A, Tucker completed a Hail Mary for a score to knock off Stephenson, and in Quad-A Sandy Creek and Carrollton are on their collision course as anticipated. Nick Chubb ran for 355 yards and 5 TD’s in their win over Pickens County. But another team making some noise in the class is Statesboro, who found a way to take care of Liberty County and top national recruit Raekwon McMillan. Frank and Stefanie have your look on “The Frenzy” about 14:00 in…
