It’s time for, as the voice of GPB says, “The thinning of the herd” once more…

Hard to believe that after one week, we’ve gone from 405 to 160 to 80…

And not without some shocks and surprises…

Playoff surprises, anyone…???

Remember, the responses in the mailbag go into next week’s musings…

And, as always, the five things that come to mind are in no particular order…

First thing I know… when a quarterback in college tells you something is going to happen- listen…

An alum of Thomas County Central told me that they’d win their first round match-up with Statesboro last week… it took extra football to do it, but he was right. The Blue Devils go into the world of the early laundry with their loss to the Yellow Jackets…

Here’s how it happened, thanks to GPB alum “The Big Guy” Frank Sulkowski and Allen Kinzly as the Frenzy leads off…

Not to be outdone are the Longhorns of Kell on last week’s “Football Fridays” game here on GPB- a completely dominating performance keeping Alan Chadwick at win #299…

Or, the Henry County win over a Thomson team that put up a lot of points until game 9, 10, and 11…

The larger question after the game was about the officiating in McDuffie County: 22 penalties for 230 yards against the Bulldogs and the Warhawks and the press was removed from the sidelines at halftime- at the request, apparently, of the officials and the home team.

Here’s Brent Buffington trying to get some answers…

Flowery Branch’s “Hail Mary” even got a win against Johns Creek on 11-11-11 as #11 Kanler Coker threw the game-winner…

And Cook, as a 4-seed, knocked off Pierce County…

Second thing I know… Congrats to Rodney Walker for win #300 in Georgia with his first-round win over Americus-Sumter…

Darnay Tripp gets to show the highlights for this one…

Third thing I know… here’s a last-second win not a lot of people may know about from Week One of the playoffs…

Clinch County had to play 47 minutes and 30 seconds before getting the game-winning score against Mitchell County in Camilla…

Robert Hydrick has the play-by-play in the Locker Room…
You get another version of the Rodney Walker win at the 1:00 mark, and Clinch wins at the 5:00 mark…

And now they get Lincoln County in Lincolnton for Round Two…???
Are you kidding me…??? I think that’s the match-up of the week…

Fourth thing I know… thoughts and prayers go out to our friends at Harris County High School in Hamilton and everyone affected by the storms and tornadoes yesterday.

Doug Evans reports from the school- a fortunate environment where no one was injured…

Storm Causes Damage Across Harris County: MyFoxATLANTA.com

Classes are out for the remainder of the week. The school was set to be vacant next week for Thanksgiving, so it looks like everything is done until the 29th. The football field took some serious damage as well…

Fifth thing I know… blatant plug alert…

GPB Sports will carry a one-hour Cheerleading Special recapping last weekend's state championships from Columbus this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. before the Colquitt County-North Gwinnett football game. GPB will air the special again after the game. It will also be shown on Nov. 23 at 7:00 pm. and be available next week on GPB.org/sports/cheerleading.

GPB TV has a great game for you Friday night as Colquitt County comes up from South Georgia to face North Gwinnett ... The action starts a little before 8PM. Lassiter at McEachern is the game Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at GPB.org/sports...
