Chris Forcier earned Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors with his performance in Furman’s (6-3, 5-2) 20-10 victory over Appalachian State (6-3, 4-2). The Paladin QB threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns on nine of 16 passing as well as rushing 11 times for 64 yards. Forcier will look to keep the Furman offense rolling this week at home when the Paladins welcome in Elon (4-5, 2-4), and he’ll look to remain the nation’s leader in passer rating at a 183.79. … Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Chattanooga’s Josh Williams. The defensive end racked up seven tackles and three sacks in the Mocs 24-9 victory over Samford (5-4, 3-4). Williams brought his sack total to 9.5 for the season, which puts him at the top of the conference and 12th in the nation. Williams and Chattanooga have a bye week to prepare for No. 9 Wofford on November 19th. … Georgia Southern (8-1, 6-1) was able to rebound against The Citadel (4-5, 2-5) and pull out a tough victory 14-12 after suffering its first loss of the season to Appalachian State the previous week. The Eagles defense was led by SoCon Freshman of the Week winner safety Deion Stanley and his 13 tackles and one blocked PAT. Georgia Southern is now ranked third in the nation and will take on ninth-ranked Wofford (7-2, 5-1) in Spartanburg this weekend. A Georgia Southern victory would clinch the SoCon title. … Wofford is coming off of a dominating 42-24 victory over Western Carolina, so the Terriers enter the showdown with the Eagles in top form. The Terriers blitzed the Catamounts for 500 rushing yards, but they will have a much tougher time against Georgia Southern’s stingy defense that only allows 18.8 points per game and 115.8 rushing yards per game. This week’s tilt will be decided on the ground between two of the nation’s best rushing attacks. The Eagles average 323.8 yards per game and the Terriers rush for an average of 374.2 yards per game.
