Wofford’s 43-14 win over The Citadel marked the Terriers’ 13th consecutive win in the series. Eric Breitenstein again led the Terriers in rushing, this time with 106 yards rushing and a score. The junior RB is second in the conference in rushing, averaging 114.8 yards per game. In all, five Terriers scored rushing TDs. … Just a few weeks into conference, the SoCon is down to three ranked teams. Georgia Southern’s narrow victory over Chattanooga knocked the Mocs out. But UTC and Elon both are “receiving votes” in this week’s poll. The No. 1 Eagles, No. 4 Wofford and No. 7 App State are the three SoCon teams that made the cut. … Samford handed Furman its first SoCon loss of the season with a 26-21 win in Greenville. It was the first win for the Bulldogs in the series since 1969, a stretch of eight games. Bulldogs QB Dustin Taliaferro threw for 234 yards and three TDs. Despite Taliaferro’s strong outing, Furman QB Chris Forcier put up some impressive numbers too. Forcier set the Furman school record with 356 yards on 27-of-45 passing. However, while throwing three TDs, the senior also tossed three interceptions as well. They were the only picks Forcier had thrown yet this season. … Elon escaped an upset bid from Western Carolina by winning 38-31 in Cullowhee, NC. The Catamounts are still looking for their first SoCon win of the season and are just 1-4 overall. The Phoenix’s Gary Coates blocked two punts in the first quarter of the game, with the second leading to a seven-yard Thomas Wilson TD scamper. However, Western held a 14-10 halftime lead. In the second half, Elon took the lead, then expanded it to 31-17. But the Catamounts scored two straight TDs to tie the game and set the stage for Wilson’s game-winning one-yard TD pass to Aaron Mellette.
