For some reason, computers don't behave on Labor Day, either...

This is the third time I've tried to file this column... let's see if it takes...

The best part of this holiday is the football- much like Thanksgiving...

It comes in various forms including a made-for-TV event from Ohio... the Herbstreit Classic that pits Camden County against Cleveland-Glenville. But that's what the double-blues do...

They schedule up, out, and away to make sure the team is playoff ready from the absolute beginning of the season. Head coach Jeff Herron has played Aiken ((SC)), Jacksonville-First Coast, and Miami Central- losing last year 45-42, and he'll play Treasure Coast in a few weeks.

Herron was worried about the size Glenville has going in, but teams should be just as worried about the Delaware Wing-T Camden runs. You can watch all the film you want, but watching and playing against it are two different things...

Here are my five thoughts for the early part of the week...
As always, in no order...

First thought...

I think the only team that can stop Buford is Buford...

After two weeks of shutting out Gainesville 49-0 and plowing through Carver-Columbus 35-7 on Friday, it's looking more and more like Buford and Calhoun may see each other Week 15 after all. And, yes, I know I'm saying this only after two games this year...

Here's your proof... thanks to WAGA-TV and MyFoxAtlanta.com

Second thing...

How 'bout McEachern doing something that a lot of teams haven't had the ability to do recently...
Win at Martin Stadium aka "The Concrete Jungle"
The Indians scored twice in the fourth quarter to leave Valdosta with a 20-13 come-from-behind win...

"We played hard,” Vikings head coach Randy McPherson told Adam McDonald of the Valdosta Daily Times. “We have to get better. I knew going into this football game we would learn where we are at. We got beat by a good team. We’ll get better.”

Last year, McEachern won an equally-thrilling 23-22 game at Cantrell Stadium on gpb.org

But that's what games like this are for... the same point I talked about in the introduction about Camden County. The "first season" gets you ready for the "second season" which gets you ready for the "third season..."

Third thing...

These could all fall in the Keocia Howard and Rachel Daniels "Hey, Did You Know" segments you see on GPB TV and GPB.org...

The Vikings are just 3-3 in their last six games at Martin Stadium. They lost to Tift County at the end of the 2010 regular season and to Collins Hill in the third round of the playoffs...

LaGrange is 0-2 for the first time since 1995 (when they went 6-4) under first year head coach Donnie Branch. The Grangers have Cedar Grove and Carver-Columbus up next...

Woodland-Cartersville is 2-0 for only the 4th time in the school's 14 years of play. South Atlanta is 2-1 for the first time since 2004, Arabia Mountain is at .500 for only the second time in school history, and Walnut Grove shut out Jackson County 37-0 for school win number four...

Good stuff...

Fourth thing...

The Thomson community lost a legend this past summer when Luther Welsh passed...

Milan Turner came over from ECI and early returns are showing very little offensive issues in McDuffie County- 53 points against Washington-Wilkes and 57 against Lakeside-Evans.

This Friday, the Bulldogs travel to Sandersville to take on Joel Ingram and the Washington County Golden Hawks at the "House of Pain." WaCo will not be in a hospitable mood after losing to Statesboro 31-26 last week.

My gut tells me this might be a "war paint" game for Washington County...
Just a hunch...

Fifth thing...

The game of the week, regardless of classification, will be in Rochelle with Wilcox County hosting Clinch...

Shameless plug time...

This week, the "Football Fridays in Georgia" will check in on life at the Lions Den with Peachtree Ridge taking on Newnan... pre-game starts a little before 8PM Friday night...

On the web side, it's Kell and Woodstock... the pre-game show is around 7:25 or so...

So follow us all season long on TV, the web, or on our iPhone app which (I hear from people who have those fancy-kind of phone) is a very cool thing...

What's on your mind this week...???

Play it safe, everyone... I'll talk to you soon...

PS- I think I figured out the computer issue, I just have to type faster...
I should have all my copy recalled by heart by now, anyway...
