This week all of Georgia’s teachers and students are getting back into the classroom and back into the school year routine. After such a long break, it can be difficult to happily wake and arrive to work while it’s still very dark outside. Maybe the folks over at Amazon.com knew that and gifted us with the return of Amazon Student just in time.

Full disclosure, I will shop local every chance I get. It’s the rural, small town girl in me that just won’t quit. However, there are those times that you just can’t overlook an amazing deal online. Most of the time, I’m just logging on to compare the Box Store price of an item with Amazon’s. While finding the deal online is gratifying, I will not make the leap to purchase online if I have to pay shipping. It’s a quirk.

With Amazon Student, eligible customers can get Prime shipping free for 6 months. It’s intended to support college students buying school books (and whatever else Amazon has to offer). To be eligible, you need a .edu email address. Then you’ll select a few drop down boxes about your college and major. That’s it.

Other benefits include $39 annual Prime Membership (regularly $79) for perks like on-demand movie streaming, free two day shipping on Prime items for a year and a Kindle Owner’s Lending Library. Students can earn $3 for each friend they refer who also signs up.

If you aren’t eligible for the student benefits, you can still enter to win one of 500 Kindle Fire HD’s in an Amazon giveaway. Tablets are increasing in popularity and make great classroom tools for expanding the learning experience while keeping students digitally fluent.
