Hundreds of protesters gathered on the steps of the federal courthouse in downtown Macon on Wednesday night, denouncing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
This year’s Macon-Bibb Hispanic Festival will feature increased security and social workers because of concerns about attending while Immigration and Customs Enforcement detains a significant number of immigrants nationwide.
Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said he will cooperate with the U.S. Department of Justice if Attorney General Pam Bondi pursues a federal investigation into the Bibb County Jail. Two U.S. senators, a Macon criminal prosecutor and the Georgia NAACP also expressed support for the probe.
