This year’s Macon-Bibb Hispanic Festival will feature increased security and social workers because of concerns about attending while Immigration and Customs Enforcement detains a significant number of immigrants nationwide.
Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said he will cooperate with the U.S. Department of Justice if Attorney General Pam Bondi pursues a federal investigation into the Bibb County Jail. Two U.S. senators, a Macon criminal prosecutor and the Georgia NAACP also expressed support for the probe.
Macon-Bibb County is the only municipality in Middle Georgia where homeless camping and sleeping in public is banned. But the ordinances actually have allowed for more outreach and support than arrests.
