A Georgia town plans to dedicate a piece of a steel beam from one of the World Trade Center towers as a Sept. 11 memorial.

The 1,600-pound piece was given to the city of Suwanee by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey two years ago.

Suwanee's dedication ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday is one of several Georgia events to mark the 12th anniversary of the terror attacks.

In Atlanta, the police and fire departments will mark the anniversary with a 9:30 a.m. ceremony at the Public Safety Headquarters on Peachtree Street. Police Chief George Turner and Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran are scheduled to speak.

At Milton High School north of Atlanta, about 3,000 American flags are flying to represent those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
