Public schools in the Columbus area may have a new superintendent soon.

Muscogee County school officials have scheduled a news conference for next Tuesday, when they hope to introduce a new top administrator.

It's been a long wait. Current superintendent Susan Andrews announced her retirement 16 months ago.

School board chairman Rob Varner says he hopes the board will unanimously agree on a finalist for the job when it votes during a Tuesday meeting before speaking to reporters. The board has interviewed seven candidates for the position.
