Employees at Big Dog Running Company in Columbus knew they wanted to show their support for the victims of last week’s Boston Marathon bombings. To do that, they and runners all over the state have scheduled “Boston Solidarity Runs.”

“It’s definitely something that we can all pull together and do for the folks up in Boston,” explained Jennifer Williams, marketing and social media coordinator for Big Dog Running. “Our running community had people up there running the race and so, it definitely not only affected us, but the whole community here.”

Most of the runs in Georgia were scheduled for between 6:00 and 7:30 p.m Monday.

Some stores including Big Dog ordered “Runners for Boston” t-shirts that people could pick up with a $20 donation to One Fund Boston, the official charity to support those impacted by the tragedy.

“One hundred percent of the proceeds go toward that fund,” said Williams. “Runners travel all over the country and all over the world for different races and Boston is a very special race to a lot of people. People spend years planning and preparing and training for a race like this—trying to qualify for a race like this. So, really when you think about it, it is far geographically, but it’s close to a lot of people’s hearts and minds and especially in this sport where you do travel and train for things and try and qualify for things. It really makes the whole world a lot smaller.”
