A new chief justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia is set to be sworn in Tuesday.

George H. Carley will become the 29th chief justice of the state high court during a morning investiture ceremony Tuesday. Carley will be introduced by former Chief Justice Willis B. Hunt, Jr., now a senior federal judge. U.S. District Court Judge Steve C. Jones for the Northern District of Georgia will administer the oath.

Carley will become the first in Georgia history to have served as presiding judge and chief judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals, as well as presiding justice and chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court.

All six living former chief justices plan to attend the investiture.
