A state audit shows Georgia quietly funneled millions of taxpayer dollars into two projects in Gov. Sonny Perdue's home county as he wrapped up his second term.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Sunday that the audit found $4 million went toward the purchase of a forestland known as Oaky Woods that's adjacent to property that Perdue owns in Houston County.

The report said another $375,000 was diverted to finish the Go Fish Education Center near Perdue's hometown of Bonaire.

The diversions would typically be submitted to state lawmakers, but the two Houston County projects were not. The diversions were legal, but some lawmakers are pushing for a change.

In all, the audit found state officials diverted about $185 million in bond money to other projects over the past 10 years.
