Thousands of boxes containing millions of items are about to be moved from the University of Georgia's main library to a new building that will house special collections.

Many of the items are so valuable that the library is hiring specially trained movers to handle them.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Jean Cleveland, the library's public relations officer, says a library official will stand by as vans are loaded and sealed, and another will wait at the new library to watch workers break the seal and unload the cargo.

Archivist Renna Tuten of the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies says that as workers pack up library holdings, they're discovering old treasures.

Library officials hope to open the new library to the public in early January.
