State Gas Tax Hike In Effect
Primary Content
Georgia drivers are paying a little more tax-per-gallon for the first time in 4 months. The nearly 3 cents-per-gallon hike is due to the recalculation of the state's gas tax that went into effect Sunday.
Normal pricing conditions call for an automatic recalculation of state gas taxes every six months - the last on January 1st. The exeption is for when gas prices rise or fall more than 25 percent, which is the case now.
Governor Nathan Deal said last week he did not plan to freeze the tax hike, unlike his predecesor. Former governor Sonny Perdue froze the hike in 2008.
A check on gas prices this morning according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report shows the average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.84. That represents a rise of 11 cents over a week ago.
