Georgia led the nation in first time unemployment claims for the last week in December. About 12,000 Georgians file for unemployment by Jan. 1. That’s according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Nationwide 445,000 workers filed initial claims. The Labor department says over 9 million American’s are currently unemployed.

The second highest in first time claims are in Michigan where just over 10 thousand people filed for claims.
