Governor Sonny Perdue could make last-minute appointments to the Board of Regents as his days in office draw to a close. The terms of two regents expire on January 1. Perdue has been busy preparing for the transfer to Governor-Elect Nathan Deal, who’s also taking part in the decision.

Perdue Spokesman Bert Brantley says the two have been working closely to fill the seats on the state board that oversees state colleges and universities.

“A lot of board appointments expire on January 1. At this point, I don’t know if these appointments will be made by Government Perdue or if they’ll be held until Governor-Elect Deal comes in. But we are working on this literally everyday and we’ll be making some announcements on some appointments very likely before the end of the term.”

Brantley says members currently serving could be reappointed.

18 Regents serve seven year terms. The seats expiring represent congressional districts in southeast and southwest Georgia.
