It’s undecided whether the Georgia Sports and Music Halls of Fame will move from Macon next year, but one thing is certain, they can expect no money from the state.

That information came in response to questions asked by those bidding for the museums. During the last legislative session lawmakers voted to put out a request for proposals to possibly move the halls. Six cities, including Macon, have expressed interest in them.

Kirby Godsey is from Macon but sits on the Music Hall of Fame Authority Board. He says the museum does not make enough money to meet expenses.

“The General Assembly is a body of its own and they will make decisions whether they make any continuing contribution, but any proposals coming from any quarters cannot presume additional state funding.”

Godsey says the new operators of the museum will have to put together a combination of private and public money from local governments. Final proposals are due in December with a final site being selected by April.
