A new clinic in Savannah is offering dental care for kids whose families may not be able to afford it. A new dental clinic for kids offers reduced prices for families without insurance.

The clinic is the first of its kind in the eight-county Coastal Health District, though there are similar programs elsewhere in Georgia. It accepts Medicaid and offers reduced prices for families without insurance.

Dr. Deb Smith is the district's dental director.

"I'm sure if you talked to a school nurse or a school principal, they would tell you how many kids miss school because of toothaches, and I'm sure everyone wants to help that situation," Smith said. "Education is important, and if you can't concentrate you will never be able to do well in school."

Officials hope to open more clinics like this in the future.
