A patient at Candler Hospital in Savannah is being tested for COVID-19. It is neither a confirmed nor a presumed case of the coronavirus.

The patient has been isolated and a sample was sent for testing Monday, a hospital spokesman told the Savannah Morning News.

The St. Joseph's/Candler health system said last week its doctors and nurses are in close contact with state public health officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Health workers are screening patients to determine whether they have traveled to areas with widespread transmission, had contact with people who have or have symptoms including fever, cough and shortness of breath.

Savannah's other major hospital, Memorial University Medical Center, said Tuesday afternoon it did not have any confirmed cases of COVID-19.
