Democrat and Republican members of the House of Representatives announced, today, their plan for funding a long term state transportation solution.

The proposed bill would take a percentage of the state surplus to fund transportation, but only once the economy improves .

Republican Representative Mark Hamilton said the bill will not compete with other transportation funding ideas in the house and senate.

"The economic growth we've enjoyed, the way of life we've enjoyed the relatively low taxes we've enjoyed, will all be in peril if we don't find a long term mechanism of funding state wide transportation," Hamilton said.

Georgia is currently the fourth fastest growing state in the nation, but ranks 49th in the amount of money it spends on infrastructure.
