A man convicted of several of the 1970’s “stocking stranglings” in Columbus is scheduled to die Wednesday.

But the NAACP is asking for a stay of execution for Carlton Gray to allow time for testing DNA evidence.

It requests the Muscogee County District Attorney Julia Slater drop her opposition to his execution stay.

Gary was convicted of three of the seven stocking stranglings.

His execution is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the state Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.

If a stay is denied, the NAACP plans a prayer vigil at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Columbus Government Center downtown.
