An engine tail cone of a Delta Airlines jet popped off shortly after take off in New York and dropped into someone’s front lawn Thursday. No one was hurt.

The FAA says the jet doesn’t need that part to fly and passengers weren’t in danger. Neither the pilots nor people on the ground noticed when it happened Thursday night. The plane flew on and after it landed in Tokyo, Delta personnel reported the part missing. Delta says an investigation is underway.
