Heather Henley, editor of Do Savannah, and Lauren Cleland, social media manager of Visit Savannah, offer up some ways to have fun in the area this weekend.

Lauren’s picks:

-Southbound Brewing is kicking off the new year with a series of “tap takeovers” at local restaurants, where their signature local beers will be flowing alongside some delicious food. Get a souvenir pint glass to take home after your meal. Full schedule of upcoming events here.

-Spend some time in the great outdoors with Wilderness Southeast’s paddle down Ebenezer Creek in Rincon Saturday. A guide will explain the river swamp ecosystem as you take in the cypress and tupelo trees - and keep your eyes peeled for turtles, herons and other animals. Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; $50.

-Enjoy the classic combination of good wine and great art at the Savannah Art Walk Saturday. Start with wine at the Bohemian Hotel, visit some of the 32 participating galleries - then wrap things up with another drink and a raffle at the Andaz Hotel. And don’t worry if you’re not up for all that walking; hop on a free trolley to get from gallery to gallery. Saturday, 4 p.m., raffle at 8; free.

Heather’s picks:

-Get involved with the Savannah Folk Music Society at the year’s opening First Friday for Folk Music, Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. The show features Roll On Rodney and Jefferson Ross - and the group is hoping it will help attract new members. Friday, 7:30-10 p.m.; $5 donation.

-Stay on track with your fitness goals at the annual Resolution Race 5K. The race around the gorgeous campus of Bethesda Academy benefits the school, and comes with a pancake breakfast afterward. Saturday, 8:30 a.m. start; $35.

-Take in some world-class ballet with the State Ballet Theatre of Russia’s production of Romeo and Juliet at the Johnny Mercer Theatre. With a score by Prokofiev, the ballet tells Shakepeare’s tragic tale of star-crossed lovers determined to be together despite their families’ bloody rivalry. Never was a story of more woe. Saturday, 7:30 p.m.; $28-58.
