Georgia has one more city. Yesterday, voters overwhelmingly approved a plan to create the city of Tucker, but they shot down a proposal for the city of LaVista Hills by a thin margin of just 136 votes.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports Tucker will be the eighth new city in Metro Atlanta over the last decade. That trend started in 2005 with the incorporation of Sandy Springs.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports LaVista Hills and its more than 67,000 residents will remain part of unincorporated DeKalb County.

Supporters of the plans to incorporate argued that it would give them more control and separation from DeKalb County government, which has faced corruption allegations.
