Highway Patrol: Truck Following Too Closely Led To I-16 Crash
Primary Content

The Georgia State Patrol says a truck driver following too closely set off a chain reaction that resulted in the fatal crash on Interstate 16 two weeks ago. WSAV-TV reports that’s the finding in the Highway Patrol’s preliminary report on the crash.
Five Georgia Southern University nursing students were killed in the seven-vehicle collision. The report says a semi truck hit an SUV containing two of the students after following it too closely. The SUV struck another car in front, which hit a tanker truck - and the chain reaction continued forward.
The Highway Patrol says the report could change before it’s finalized in the next few days.
