Republican state Sen. William Ligon of Brunswick says the College Board's new Advanced Placement U.S. history test is biased to the left and should be scrapped.

Legislators expressed strong concerns Wednesday that the new test currently being used is unfair during an often contentious joint state Senate and House education committee hearing.

Some on the panel said they support a resolution that Ligon proposed to eliminate the test.

The lawmakers faced off against two history scholars who say they agree with Ligon. College Board official Trevor Packer and Atlanta-area history teacher Chad Hoge say the revised test is good but may need minor tweaks.

Ligon says he wants the test changed because it reflects a revisionist view of history.
