The director the Atlanta–based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says he is concerned about the potential for a large–scale measles outbreak.

The CDC reports more than 100 measles cases around the U.S., including an outbreak in California, that began at the Disneyland theme park.

A growing number of parents are refusing to vaccinate their children.

But CDC Director Tom Frieden says the measles vaccine is undisputedly safe.

"The science is clear. Study after study has shown that there are no serious, long–term adverse consequences from measles," Frieden told CBS' Face The Nation. "Of course, it can hurt your arm. 1 in 6 kids can have a fever 10 days after. But the vaccine is safe and effective."

Georgia's Department of Public Health says no measles cases were reported in the state.
