Republican Senator Johnny Isakson

Republican Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss are applauding President Obama’s nomination of Sally Quillian Yates for the position of deputy attorney general.

Yates serves as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.

In a joint statement Isakson and Chambliss called Yates an “exceptionally skilled attorney with a strong record of public service and a well-qualified nominee to be deputy attorney general.”

They say her “22 years of experience in the U.S. attorney’s office and her role as vice chair of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee make her well-suited for the responsibilities of the job.”

If Yates’ nomination is confirmed, she would handle the day-to-day operations of the attorney general’s office.
