Boarded-up homes, shuttered stores, overgrown yards and crumbling roads…
By themselves, these are eyesores and sometimes safety hazards. Taken together, they’re known as blight, a daily reality across Macon and Bibb County.

GPB Macon, The Telegraph and the Center for Collaborative Journalism at Mercer University have been examining blight in-depth: its causes, its effects on communities and individuals, and ways community leaders and residents might be able to effectively address it.

Macon&Eggs' journalists Leah Fleming and Charles Richardson talk blight this week.

Richardson is editorial page editor at The Telegraph. “One thing this series has done is brought out the fact that there is a human component to all of this. This is something we should care about. We ought to help those who find themselves in a condition like that.”

GPB Macon, The Telegraph and the Center For Collaborative Journalism is hosting two community forums on blight:

October 6th at 6pm
Woodruff House, 998 Bond Street in Macon
&
October 7th at 6pm
East Macon Park Community Center, 3326 Ocmulgee East Blvd in Macon
