A mass commitment ceremony united 15 couples Sunday as part of Savannah's first-ever LGBT Wedding Expo. The Expo had 50 wedding vendors and couples from all over Georgia and parts of Florida.

Mandy Knight and Shari Salaz had a committment ceremony two years ago outside of Savannah. However, the couple felt it was important to attend the Expo and do it again.

“Just to get the word out there. We’d like to be apart of the community to try and get it legalized here in the state,” says Salaz.

Knight says she was overwhelmed with emotion the entire day.

"I cried when we were inside checking out the expo and we went to a friend who works at Rum Runners and I just started balling. Its just exciting and happy and fun. All of the emotion just hit me at once."

"She didn’t cry at her first one. So this one was pretty emotional," Salaz adds.

The weddings were followed by a reception with a live band and free champagne. Angie Horne, Operations Director of Gay Savannah, says after contacting every Savannah vendor and reaching out to numerous same sex couples, the event was even more successful than she imagined.

"I think it's amazing. It's overwhelming how beautiful it is and how great it has come together."

Gay Savannah plans to send a video to Georgia state representatives of the event, to incite change regarding the ban on gay marriage.
