A group of religious leaders in Washington, D.C. is criticizing President Donald Trump's federal takeover of the District's police force, saying his rhetoric is dehumanizing and counterproductive.

Critics say the Capitol Police's history of secrecy contributed to the failure to prevent the Capitol riot. Unlike many departments, the agency is exempt from releasing records like bodycam footage.

Acting U.S. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman told a House committee that the department expects to answer "for our failings on Jan. 6."
