American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin, 27, has tied Ingemar Stenmark's record for career race wins on the alpine skiing World Cup. Stenmark set the record at age 32 in 1989.

Mikaela Shiffrin wins gold in giant slalom at the world championships

The victory makes Shiffrin only the fourth female skier to win world titles in four different disciplines. Last month, she broke Lindsey Vonn's women's record of 82 World Cup wins.

Shiffrin, known as the reigning queen of the slopes, fell in her first run in the giant slalom at the Beijing Olympics. It was the first time she did not finish a giant slalom race in four years.
