The change is part of a round of layoffs at CBS News. When the radio service began operation in September 1927, it was a precursor to the entire CBS network. Today its top-of-the-hour news roundups are delivered to about 700 stations across the U.S.

"As a news reporter ... I am confident to report that you are so special and amazing," Grover tweeted. Some responded with jokes about him getting laid off, a common occurrence in today's media world.

The union representing the magazine's staff said that SI's publisher plans to cut "a significant number, possibly all" of its union-represented staff.

BuzzFeed News started in 2012 and grew to have more than 100 journalists across the world. Moving forward, BuzzFeed will concentrate news efforts in HuffPost, the company said.
